Wakiro Sumi

1950  Born in Gifu, Japan

1969  Graduated from Gifu Prefectural Kano High School, Visual Arts Course.

1971  Left Nagoya University of Arts (major: sculpture).

1972  Completed Fujimicho Atelier B-Semi (presently B-Semi Learning System).

1972  First Solo Exhibition at Gin Gallery.

1973  Assistant of Sculptor Miki Tomio.

1976  Lived in New York.

1984  Solo Exhibition 'STOLICHNAYA' at Gallery Muramatsu and Gallery Te, Tokyo.

1985  Solo Exhibition at Eses Gallery (presently Shimada Shigeru Gallery), Tokyo (also in 1989).

1986  Solo Exhibition at Akiyama Gallery, Tokyo (also in 1988, 1991, 1995).

1986-1987  Invited by the French Ministry of Culture.

1987  Group Exhibition 'Japon Passe´-Pre´sent' at Centre de la Vieille Charite´, Marseille.

1987  Three-Person Exhibition 'Yano, Ikegaya, Sumi' at Galerie Passage, Troyes.

1991  Solo Exhibition at Shimada Shigeru Gallery, Tokyo (also in 1993, 1995, 1999, 2001).

1992  Group Exhibition 'Among the Figures' at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo and the
    National Museum of Art, Osaka.

1994  Solo Exhibition 'THE VEIL' at Galeri eokoro, Tokyo.

1994  Group Exhibition 'Light & Shadow' at Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art.

1995  Group Exhibition 'Allegory of Seeing' at Sezin Museum of Art, Tokyo.

1997  Solo Exhibition 'ARABESQUE' at IBM-Kawasaki City Gallery.

1999-2000  Lived and worked in Lyon, Agency for Cultural Affairs' Special Study-Abroad Program.

2001  Group Exhibition 'TSUBAKI-KAI 2001', Shiseido Gallery , Tokyo (continued annualy 2002-
    2005).

2002  Solo Exhibition at Taguchi Fine Art, Tokyo (also in 2003, 2006).

2002  Group Exhibition 'Retracing the Paths' at Sakura City Museum of Art, Chiba.

2004  Open Studio Program at Fuchu Art Museum, Tokyo.

2007  Two Person Exhibition 'Artist Today 2000 XI: Sumi Wakiro & Hatakeyama Naoya' at Museum
